HOW DO I VIEW, DOWNLOAD & PRINT SHEET MUSIC?
TO VIEW OR PRINT MUSIC FILES, YOU MUST HAVE THE ADOBE ACROBAT PDF READER INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER.  THE PDF READER IS FREE!  (Please see HOW DO I INSTALL THE PDF READER? below.)
1.  Go to one of the LDSNotes music list pages.
2.  Scroll down to the song you would like to download, and click on the title.
3.  A "File Download" pop-up box may appear.  If you would like to print the song immediately, click "Open this file from its current location."  If you'd like to save it to a disk, click that option instead.)  Now you can view the score, and print it!

HOW DO I INSTALL THE FREE PDF READER (SO THAT I MAY DOWNLOAD AND PRINT SHEET MUSIC)?
To view and/or print the scores on this site, you must download the free Acrobat pdf Reader.  It's really free--no fees or payments at all.  Download the Acrobat Reader now!  At the Adobe Acrobat web site, you will be given simple instructions on how to download the Reader.  Adobe suggests that you close all other programs, including your internet connection, during installation.

You will register by typing in your name, email address, etc.  You will specify Windows 95, 98, Mac, etc., and what language you prefer the Reader to use.

The file size of the Acrobat Reader is 4Mb.  Be sure to specify a directory for the file, so that you may find it easily.  When the download is finished (it doesn't take long), you must install the Reader, by double-clicking on your file manager/explorer program, or by using the "Run" command.

WHICH MUSIC IS FREE?  WHICH MUSIC MUST BE PURCHASED?
On this web site's pages, you will find a "Free Music" link.  The music on that page (and that page ONLY), is available completely free to download, photocopy, and perform as you wish (for non-commercial purposes).  You may not arrange or alter free music without permission from LDSNotes, and you may not resell the music.  (See the COPY LICENSE FOR FREE SHEET MUSIC, which lists in detail all the ways you may and may not use free music downloaded from this site.)
Sheet music listed on all other music list pages is available to download, photocopy, and rehearse freely, but to perform the music you must pay a copyright license fee.  Certain pieces are not downloadable, but available as hard copies only.  This is specified on the music list pages.
Each downloadable score listed on the other music list pages are labeled "Perusal-Only Score."  The label appears on the first page of the score.  If you plan to perform a piece that bears this label (or use it in any other way besides viewing or rehearsing), you will need to legalize your downloaded copy and all photocopies you have made.  To legalize your scores, you pay a per-copy copyright license fee, after which a password will be sent to you.  (For more information on how to pay these fees, read "HOW DO I PAY THE PER-COPY COPYRIGHT LICENSE FEE?"  The password allows you to access and download a legal copy of Page One of the song.  You may then discard the first page of your Perusal-Only Score, and replace it with your legal copy of Page One.  Likewise, you will need to replace the first page of all Perusal photocopies with legal photocopies of Page One.
Hard copy masters are free to order (in and of themselves), but you must pay a base shipping charge ($4.00 U.S., or $7.00 outside U.S.).  You must also pay copyright license fees if you plan on photocopying the hard copy master.  "All Rights Reserved" hard copies are $1.15 per copy, and both sales tax and shipping charges apply to those hard copies.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE PASSWORD-PROTECTED "LEGAL PAGE ONE?"
After you receive your password, go to the LDSNotes home page and click on the "Download Legal Page" link.  This brings you to a list of password-protected song titles in alphabetical order.  Click on the song title,  type in the password, then print the page.  Remember...only the first page of a password-protected score will download.  This is a legal page that will replace the first page of your Perusal-Only Score.  You will not need to replace the entire Perusal-Only Score--only the first page of the score.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY "LEGAL PAGE ONE?"
Perusal-Only Scores are not legal scores.  After you have paid the copyright license fees for the photocopies you plan to make (or have already made), use the password we will email (or U.S. mail) you to download a completely legal copy of Page One of the score.  You may photocopy this "Legal Page One" only as many times as you paid copyright license fees for.  Then, attach the copies of your new legalized first pages to pp. 2 thru the end of your Perusal-Only copies, replacing the Perusal-Only Page One with the Legal Page One.  You may simply discard the first page of your Perusal-Only copies.  And again...you will not need to replace the entire Perusal-Only score with legal copies--just replace the first page.
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO MAKE EXTRA PHOTOCOPIES?
If you need to make extra photocopies of a song (i.e., for choir), and you would rather not re-photocopy and replace each first page of the Perusal-Only Score with legalized first pages, you may prefer to only print pp. 2 thru the end of the Perusal-Only Score, get your copyright license fees in the mail to LDSNotes immediately, then wait just a few days for the song's password to be e-mailed to you.  When you receive the password, you may immediately download the "Legal Page One" and make as many photocopies of the entire score as you paid copyright license fees for.  This method requires that you wait until your check reaches LDSNotes before you can receive the password, download the music, and rehearse; but in most cases this process only takes a few days.  Your password will be e-mailed within 24 hours of receipt of payment, so this method is quicker than waiting for hard copies to arrive in the mail!  If you need us to U.S. mail (rather than e-mail) the password/passwords to you, please specify this on your COPY LICENSE AND REGISTRATION FORM.
HOW DO I PAY THE PER-COPY COPYRIGHT LICENSE FEE?
If you plan to use a song for any purpose other than rehearsal or perusal (i.e., for performance purposes), you will need to pay the per-copy copyright license fee and register (this will legalize your perusal-only copies).  It's a quick and easy step:  Go to the COPY LICENSE & REGISTRATION FORM on this site (the "Legalize Perusal Scores" link brings you there).  You may either fill in and submit the registration info online (and mail check or money order to the LDSNotes address on the form), or, print out the form and mail it along with check/money order.  After you download the "Legal Page One," you may make as many photocopies as you paid copyright license fees form  If you need additional copies, please use the COPY LICENSE & REGISTRATION FORM again, and pay the additional per-photocopy fees.
WHAT IF MY COPY SERVICE REFUSES TO REPLICATE COPYRIGHTED MUSIC?
Your copy vendor may refuse to photocopy copyrighted sheet music--yes, many still refuse, and thank goodness for their integrity.  If you think your particular copy service (or ward librarian) may refuse, print out and fill in the COPY LICENSE & REGISTRATION FORM then present it to your vendor as authorization to reproduce the specified number of copies.  This form serves as your LDSNotes Receipt of Payment.  If you send the form to LDSNotes by U.S. mail (with your check ) instead of online, you'll need to photocopy the form after you fill it in, so that you'll have a completed copy to present to your vendor.  If you order hard copies, you may request an LDSNotes Receipt of Payment on the HARD COPY ORDER FORM.  You will be able to make the number of copies indicated on the receipt (the # of copies you paid copyright license fees for).
WHAT IF I CAN'T PRINT SHEET MUSIC? HOW DO I ORDER HARD COPIES?
If you don't have a way to download sheet music (or if you just prefer to order hard copies), hard copy masters are available.  Hard copy masters (NOT "All Rights Reserved" hard copies) are free in and of themselves, but you will need to pay copyright license fees if you plan to make photocopies, and you will also need to pay a base shipping charge.  "All Rights Reserved" hard copies are priced at $1.15 per copy, plus tax and shipping (and "All Rights Reserved" hard copies are not permissible to photocopy).  Also, be aware that all hard copy masters are one-sided, unbound originals on bright white paper, for you to photocopy.  (They are left unbound to make photocopying easier for you.)  You may wish to make two-sided photocopies.
For all hard copies except "All Rights Reserved ones, you may only order one hard copy master per title (but you may order several titles in at once).  Be sure to pay copyright license fees when you order a hard copy--then you may photcopy the master.  When you add up your total costs: copyright license fees for the number of photocopies you will be making ($0.60 per copy), base shipping charges ($4.00 U.S. or $7.00 outside U.S.), and your own photocopying costs (probably somewhere between $0.02 and $0.10 per copy, or free if you make copies at your church library)--you can see that ordering sheet music from LDSNotes (even in hard copy form) is much less expensive than ordering most sheet music.  The trade-off for great prices is a little leg-work on your part: making photocopies, punching the copies for binders or stapling, etc.
Ordering hard copies requires more waiting time than ordering downloadable music--you can't rehearse immediately unless you download a Perusal-Only Score.  However, in most cases we will mail your hard copy/copies to you on the day we receive both your check or money order, and HARD COPY ORDER FORM.  If you need to make additional photocopies after you have ordered, please use the COPYRIGHT LICENSE & REGISTRATION FORM, and pay the additional fees.  The link for this form on the pages of this site is called "Legalize Perusal Scores."
Free hard copies are ordered by using the HARD COPY ORDER FORM.  "All Rights Reserved" hard copies are ordered by using a different form:  ORDER FORM FOR "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" HARD COPIES.
WHAT ARE "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" HARD COPIES?
HOW DO I ORDER "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" HARD COPIES?
Because of copyright issues, certain pieces on this web site are not permissible to either download or photocopy.  However, you may order copies of these scores by using a special hard copy order form, called ORDER FORM FOR "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" HARD COPIES.  This form is only to be used to order the three particular hard copies that are specified.  For all other hard copy orders, please use the HARD COPY ORDER FORM.  Only three pieces on this web site are offered as "All Rights Reserved" hard copies:  "I Feel My Savior's Love," "I Lived In Heaven," and "This Is My Beloved Son" (each is an SATB mixed voices choral arrangement of a Primary hymn, and each has won an award in the Church Music Contests).  All other pieces/arrangements on this web site may be ordered in hard copy by using the HARD COPY ORDER FORM.

The ORDER FORM FOR "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" HARD COPIES may be accessed by going to a music list page, then clicking on the title of a piece that is specified as "All Rights Reserved" (there is also a link to this form on all pages of this site).  Please keep in mind that it is illegal to photocopy these particular scores, for ANY PURPOSE!  If you are confused about which music you are allowed or not allowed to photocopy, check the copyright notice on the first page of the score in question.  If you need additional copies of an "All Rights Reserved" scores, use the ORDER FORM FOR "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" HARD COPIES to order more copies.

The ORDER FORM FOR "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED" HARD COPIES is different from the HARD COPY ORDER FORM, because you must order the quanitity of hard copies that you need (instead of just ordering a master copy to make photocopies from).  You are not permitted to photocopy the scores listed on the ORDER FORM FOR 'ALL RIGHTS RESERVED' hard copies, for any reason.  Therefore, copy license fees do not apply to these particular scores.  All other hard copy scores on this web site may be photocopied the # of times you paid copyright license fees for (and must be ordered with the HARD COPY ORDER FORM).

Each "All Rights Reserved" title is priced at $1.15 per copy, plus a base shipping charge and your county's sales tax.  These special hard copies are two-sided.

 WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT LDSNotes?
If you have been reading any of the above information, you have already learned that LDSNotes is a unique internet sheet music publisher.  The music ordering method is similar to other "music shareware" methods, but with a few different twists.  There are some definite advantages to ordering music from LDSNotes:

Paying copyright license fees for sheet music that you download (and making all the photocopies you need from that master copy) is much less expensive and more convenient than ordering music from a store.  You may try out a piece with your voice or your choir BEFORE you decide to buy it.  Free downloadable perusal/rehearsal scores may be photocopies as soon as you download them (no more waiting for your order to come via snail mail).  If you decide not to perform any particular perusal/rehearsal score you downloaded, you won't need to pay for it.
Making your perusal/rehearsal scores legal (so that you may perform them) is easy.  Simply pay the per-copy copyright license fee for the number of photocopies you plan to make, then use a password we will e-mail you to access a legal copy of Page One of the piece (see "How Do I Access The Password-Protected 'Legal Page One?'" above for details).  Replace your perusal/rehearsal first pages with copies of your newly downloaded legal first page, then your scores are legal!
Hard copy masters are also available, as long as you pay the per-copy copyright license fees for the number of photocopies you make.
Music is always in supply (and never goes out of print).  If some licensed copies are destroyed, lost, or damaged, just replace them by downloading again, making additional photocopies, and paying the additional licensing fees.
The LDSNotes mission is to become a convenient, affordable resource where church musicians may find high quality sheet music.  We will be expanding our list of composers, and featuring a variety of Christian and LDS musical styles.
